The 740 Park Bar Room

A mica-clad bar room at 740 Park with a Venetian mirror and shimmering silver-grey walls

For Michael S. Smith's landmark residence at 740 Park Avenue, Ariana created every mica surface in the bar room — hand-patterned veneers she invented and refined over years in the studio. The mineral is split by hand into fine leaves and laid piece by piece, until the walls hold light the way cloth holds a fold.

Of the project's many rooms, it was this one that Architectural Digest chose for its October 2018 cover — a room whose every shimmering surface began as raw stone in Ariana's hands.
